Building Abstract or Character based Emoji’s

  1. BEGIN: You should practice going through your icon list and start choosing interesting items example. try fruit and put eyes on the fruit and find icons that may look like legs or arms as well. Experiment as much as you can with the different icons that are available
PRACTICE PERSONALIZE EMOJI WITHOUT EMOTICONS IN THE LIST

2.Stacking: This is important to fill out your art. You can use different colors and rearrange that shape to come up with something that is abstract. A lot time just practicing you find yourself treating something that is meaningful.
As an example: When this quick evil Santa I used kissy lips, vase and rice bowl upside down.

EVIL SANTA I STACKED KISS LIPS FOR THE HAT | HELLO KITTY STACKED TONGUES TO CREAT THE FACE AND GRAPES FOR THE CLOTHING

3. Find Inspiration: You can find neat ideas from trending boards such as Facebook, twitter, possibly popular figures (music, sports , or video game characters. One of my favorite movies is ‘Ferris Bueller’ so did a quick remake emoji art of the movie cover.

Note: if you building a person build out the body first before layering the clothes on top of the character this saves you time so your emoticons on top that are placed on top of an another icon or (Stacked) do not fall beneath the primary emoticon.

ROTATE YOUR PHONE: If you are struggling to edit and you see the dread X at the TOP LEFT corner of your screen. Rotate you phone temporarily to get the hard to reach area and after your complete you can EDIT vertically once again.

AIRPLANE MODE: Quick tip that has helped me and I learned the hard way when I accidentally hit the quick Auto-post button while creating emoji art and my halfway done art was sent to my story. Now when Im drawing I turn on my airplane mode!

AS YOU CAN SEE I BUILT THE ARM FIRST OUT OF NOSES AND THEN I WILL PLACE THE SHOES, PANTS AND THEN TSHIRT IN THE SEQUENCE TO MAKE SURE IM NOT OVERLAPPING THE EMOJIO NATURALLY.

ADD MUSIC TO YOUR ART — The way I am able to film music with emoji art is using Spotify to play a track while I’m holding down the recording button. It sometimes nice to have a just to have a plane black screen all you need to do is cover the camera and record. For a white screen you can shoot a white piece of paper which work well. For more interesting backgrounds you can recored a close shot of any material (denim, walls, construction paper etc.) Be creative!
